The steps below will guide you from start to finish and allow you to verify the accuracy of each requirement that must be met when running on-demand assessments:

The most common issues that we see encountered by users are: (the guide on how to solve them is mentioned below in the article)

  1. When you run the assessment but don't see data in Log Analytics -> Restart the health service if the data files are pending transfer.

  2. Error message: "You don't have access to Azure Log Analytics" in Service Hub -> IT Health -> On-Demand Assessments.

Microsoft Monitoring Agent (MMA) installation issues

Cannot successfully link to the specified workspace as part of the MMA installation

Sometimes when installing the MMA agent, it fails to successfully connect to the workspace by specifying the Azure Log Analytics (OMS) workspace credentials (ID and key). A workaround that sometimes works is to remove the WorkspaceId and key and install the MMA without specifying any workspaces. Next, open the MMA control panel by going to Control Panel, Security and Settings, Microsoft Monitoring Agent, Azure Log Analytics (OMS) tab and add the desired workspace by specifying its ID and key. Then click the Apply button and make sure the green check mark appears.

Linking and permissions

  1. Click this link to watch the videoto preconfigure your assessments on demand.
  2. Make sure you have the Azure subscription owner role on the Azure subscription.at the same email ID you use to sign in to Services Hub.
  3. You should be able to see the page below in the Services Center under the Health tab and then Reviews after linking successfully.
  4. Confirm that the Log Analytics workspace you have access to is the one linked to the service hub. If not, ask them to link again by clicking the profile in the top right, then clicking Edit Log Analytics Workspace and linking the desired workspace.
  5. Confirm that you have added the desired catalog rating.

Some of the most common problems when calling a command like AddExchangeAssessmentTask are described below:

Windows Server 2008 R2 does not recognize the Add-*AssessmentTask commands

It is recommended that you do not run assessments on a Windows Server 2008 machine. But when absolutely necessary, you should do the following:

(Video) Pre-configure Your On-Demand Assessments

  1. Install the latest version of Powershell and .net 4.6.2 on Windows 2008 server. Most Windows 2008 servers have Powershell, which uses .net 2.0 and does not meet the requirements.
  2. Run Powershell in Administrator mode.
  3. Before invoking any issues from the Add-*AssessmentTask commandlets:
Módulo de importación $env:ProgramFiles\'Microsoft Monitoring Agent\Agent\PowerShell\Microsoft.PowerShell.Oms.Assessments\Microsoft.PowerShell.Oms.Assessments.dll'

After running this command, you can invoke the Add-*AssessmentTask commands.

On any platform, if the Add-*AssessmentTask commands are not recognized

  1. Make sure the OMS Assessments Powershell module has been downloaded. To do this, make sure that $env:ProgramFiles\'Microsoft Monitoring Agent\Agent\PowerShell' has a subdirectory called Microsoft.PowerShell.Oms.Assessments and in that subdirectory there is a file calledMicrosoft.PowerShell.Who.Assessments.dll, as shown in the following screenshot:

Troubleshooting on-demand assessments (4)

2. If Microsoft.PowerShell.Oms.Assessments.dll is not there, make sure your Log Analytics workspace is linked to the service hub. 3. Verify that *$env:PsModulePath* contains $env:ProgramFiles\\'Microsoft Monitoring Agent\Agent\PowerShell'. 4. Make sure your installed PowerShell version is at least 4.0 (just type *$PsVersionTable* in the Powershell window) and Powershell uses CRRLVersion equal to or greater than 4.0. ### Fix assessment installation errors when running an Add-*AssessmentTask cmdlet ###

  1. Read the log file.
  2. The location of the log file is displayed in the Powershell console window. It is just an informational message, blank. See this location in the following sample screenshot:

Troubleshooting on-demand assessments (5)

Observation

If you add-AssessmentTask fails for some reason, check the log file.

  1. -ScheduledTaskUserName and -ScheduledTaskPassword may not be valid; this user does not exist or the password is invalid or has expired.

Troubleshooting on-demand assessments (6)

Requirements to successfully run the scheduled task

Check user account group policies: Login as batch job permission

Observation

Sometimes Task Scheduler may not trigger the assessment. This can happen if the user does not have permission to run the batch job. If so, this permission must be granted explicitly by entering gpedit.msc here.*

Computer Configuration\Windows Settings\Security Settings\Local Policies\User Rights Assignment

  1. Right-click on "Log on as a batch job" and select Properties.
  2. Click "Add User or Group" and add the relevant user.

Don't forcibly download the user record when logging out the user

On the data collection machine, change the following setting in the group policy editor (gpedit.msc) from "not configured" to "enabled"; Go to Computer Configuration, Administrative Templates, System, and User Profiles.

Disable FIPS policy

  1. In Control Panel, click Administrative Tools and double-click Local Security Policy.
  2. Under Security Settings, expand Local Policies and click Security Options.

Troubleshooting on-demand assessments (7)

3. Under Policy in the right pane, double-click System Encryption; use FIPS compliant algorithms for encryption, hashing, signing, and click Off. ### Network access: Do not allow storage of passwords and credentials ### 1. This error occurs with the message "No login session specified. It may already have ended." 2. To resolve this, go to SECPOL.MSC, Security Settings, Local Policies and Security Options. 3. Do not allow the storage of passwords and credentials for network authentication.

Troubleshooting on-demand assessments (8)

4. Set the policy to Disabled.

The review was not added to your workspace

If calling start-XXXAssessment produces this error: "There is no XXXAssessment.execPkg file associated with the current Log Analytics workspace...." as in the screenshot below, the reason is that the specific assessment type needs to be added to the Log Analytics workspace that the Microsoft Monitoring Agent is currently connected to. Please add the assessment on the ServicesHub page. ( Drop-down box in status then select Assessments At the bottom of the page, click on the desired assessment listed under "Available On-Demand Assessments" and in the modal dialog that appears to add the selected assessment, click " Add Assessment") Then wait at least 10 minutes before attempting to start the assessment. The delay is necessary to allow the MMA Agent to communicate with Log Analytics and download the management pack containing XXXAssessment.execPkg.Troubleshooting on-demand assessments (9)

Problems running assessment task

Inactive/no data found in Azure Log Analytics

Check Log Analytics Agent Connectivity

To make sure the agent can communicate with Azure Log Analytics, go to Control Panel, Security and Settings, and Microsoft Monitoring Agent. On the Azure Log Analytics (OMS) tab, look for a green check mark.

Troubleshooting on-demand assessments (10)

A green checkmark icon confirms that the agent can communicate with the Azure service.

A yellow warning icon means the agent is having trouble communicating with Log Analytics.

View Heartbeat messages from the AgentHealthAssessment solution

When you add the AgentHealthAssessment solution to your Log Analytics workspace through the Azure portal, you'll see helpful information including a list of machines with unresponsive agents and the last good heartbeat for each of those unresponsive machines.

Troubleshooting on-demand assessments (11)

If your machine appears there, a common reason for this is that the Microsoft Monitoring Agent service (HealthService) has stopped. Use Service Control Manager to restart the service.

(Video) Assigning On Demand Assessments

If you have a firewall restriction, make sure the following ports are open:

  • mms.microsoft.com, portal Log Analytics
  • workspaceId.ods.opinsights.azure.com,Data Collector API
  • *.ods.opinsights.azure.com, Agent Communication - Settingsfirewall settings
  • *.oms.opinsights.azure.com, Agent Communication - Settingsfirewall settings
  • *.blob.core.windows.net, Agent Communication: Configurationfirewall settings

This can be easily verified by invoking the TestCloudConnection.exe tool found in the Microsoft Monitoring Agent\Agent\ folder, as in this screenshot:

Troubleshooting on-demand assessments (12)

OnDemand assessment data is no longer seen in Log Analytics, but was seen in the past

Locate the scheduled task in Task Scheduler and run it manually in Task Scheduler. Verify that an OmsAssessment.exe process is running. If no process is running, one possible reason is that the password specified at the time Add-XXXAssessmentTask was run for this assessment is no longer valid (for example, it has expired or has been changed). to see the error in bothHistoryTask Scheduler tab and also in the Task Scheduler tabtask schedulerEvent log -- withevent ID101 (and 104) anderror value: 2147943726, as shown in the following two screenshots:

Restart the health service if data files are pending ingestion

Close all active PowerShell windows on the machine. Now if you check the Evaluation working directory and find the files with names like new.recommendations.*** (see screenshot below):

Open a command prompt in administrator mode and type the following: net stop healthservicenet start healthservice

After running the following command, the files will change to process as shown below, which means the files have been successfully ingested and the data should be visible in Log Analytics in about 30 minutes.

Check if there are any conflicting omsassessment.exe processes running

Open Task Manager and look for a process called omsassessment.exe. If found, it indicates that the evaluation is still running.

(Video) STT - NPrinting On-Demand with Qlik Sense Troubleshooting

If it has taken a long time (for example, if you find that this process has been running for more than a day), the evaluation agent may not have processed the data. So, please continue with the following troubleshooting steps below.

Review all errors in the prerequisite file

Go to the evaluation working directory and examine the prerequisites files (processed.prerequisites) to find the errors listed for evaluation purposes.

Troubleshooting on-demand assessments (18)

If errors are found, for example WMI connectivity problems, the destination names and the error will be mentioned in this file. Please resolve this and activate the review; in Task Scheduler, expand Microsoft, Operations Management Suite, AOI*****, then Assessments to right-click the desired assessment scheduled task and click run.

Pass through detection log file error

Go to the assessment working directory and enter the 6-8 digit numbered folder within the directory. Look for a folder called Logs within which you will find a file called DiscoveryTrace***.

Look for errors or exceptions in this file and resolve them as they might be related to credential/permission issues, WMI failure, network issues, etc.

Large file ingestion

If the size of the files processed.recommendations.*** below is greater than 250 MB, the Log Analytics Agent might have difficulty processing the files. If you run into this scenario and cannot see the data in Log Analytics, please contact serviceshubteam@ppas.uservoice.com and let us know about your issue.

Troubleshooting on-demand assessments (19)

Try to reduce the number of objectives per evaluation program

If you are running Windows Server, Windows Client, or SQL Assessment and you have added more than 5 objectives in a single scheduled task, sometimes the Assessment Agent may not be able to process as many objectives at the same time. If you run into this scenario, use the following cmdlet to remove any existing settings:

Remove-WindowsClientAssessmentTaskRemove-WindowsServerAssessmentTaskRemove-SQLAssessmentTask

Now run Add-AssessmentTasks again with fewer targets. You can add multiple of these tasks and create task batches with 3-5 targets per task, which would result in a faster assessment of the entire environment.

Review the submission of scheduled tasks and loader log files

In the Assessments working directory, there is a \Logs\ folder that contains*Domain*.log e*Module*.Registration. He*Domain*The .log file contains data about the scheduled task that is started by the Powershell command and can be used to find out why the scheduled task did not start. If this file is not generated when the ODA scheduled task starts, it usually indicates a password error.

o*Module*The .log file contains data about the Health Service and its attempts to upload data to the Azure Log Analytics cloud.
